Eating Too Much is a Disorder

Believe it or not, but excessive or no eating at all are considered as neurological disorders. Small children, who are unable to process their emotions, mostly suffer from this because of their inability to express feelings. Frequent fight between their parents or any kind of physical and emotional abuse can lead to such a disease. The UCSD eating disorder program deals with treating of such disorders in children, adults and adolescents as well. They help analyze the root cause of the problem and thereby provide the best treatment.

Researches show that mental disorders are not necessarily related to malfunctioning of the brain. It is generally the behavior developed by a person due to anxiety, emotional sensitivity and obsessive personality traits. According to their theory, it is not a choice that a person makes because humans don’t tend to choose suffering as a normal trait in their lives. Also, families play an important role in healing such an ailment by imparting love and care to the victim.

After the assessment is done the treatment is recommended based on factors like the level of symptoms, geographic locations, insurance and readiness for treatment. This can only be done by trained professionals and senior clinicians who understand that the fear if the patient in getting treated for such disorders and help them accordingly. Some of the plans by UCSD eating disorder program are:

1)Controlling the diet or restrictions in food habits so that the in-take of calories is less.

2)Purging which is an attempt to get rid of calories in a person’s body by vomiting or using laxatives or some other means.

3)Exercising is one method that can be really beneficial for the brain as well as the body an is very effective in improving such a disorder.

Controlling The Brain

It is important to control the functioning of the brain in order to avoid going crazy. With technology it is now possible to display the activity of a person’s brain and hence makes it possible to control it as well. It is generally used as a treatment for ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) in which the brain is taught to regulate itself by visualizing the functioning of it by the method of electroencephalography. This process is known as Neurofeedback (NFB) or neurotherapy and also as neurobiofeedback.

It is achieved by the help of sensors placed on the scalp and only a trained physiotherapist can perform this. Neurofeedback therapy in California makes use of brainwaves and it is showed to the patient. The patient is then advised of better brainwaves and they themselves try to alter it without any medication or therapy. It is also helpful for people suffering from anxiety, depression, headaches, migraines and sleep disorders. Emotional disorders can also be treated using this technique.

Although it sounds a bit like a sci-fi movies but it is true that the brain function can be altered by this method in a very scientific way. Using of electrodes and the sending of electronic signals to the computer is not an illusion. These waves are then turned into images and videos that are shown to the patient, just like a video game. They are then advised to change the brainwaves by altering the image and video according to their convenience inside their head.

An effective Neurofeedback therapy in California can take up to 30-35 sessions as it requires time and focus. Even after getting such a treatment it is not necessary that everyone benefits from it because studies show that only 20% of the patients get actual relief after this procedure.
